Parish Service Organizations

Stewardship through service

These volunteer organizations do much of the hard but rewarding work needed to serve the needs of our Parish and surrounding communities.  With such a variety of opportunities to serve please call one of our coordinators if you are interested.  Or if you know of someone who may benefit from these services please let us know.

Altar Society
Elmida Geauthreaux - 985-624-3059

The purpose of the Altar Society is to cooperate with the priests of the parish in caring for the sanctuary and sacristy of the church, to encourage others to have an interest in church work, and to help in any way, spiritual or material, in promoting the welfare of the parish.

The Ladies Altar Society hosts a Bake Sale 3 times a year, the proceeds of which go to purchase communion hosts for masses.  The ladies help with the Dessert Booth at the Festival of the Lake each fall and several members clean the church weekly.  Membership is open year round.  For more information call Elmida Geauthreaux at 985 624-3059.

Hospitality

This group provides refreshments for many parish social event receptions.  These events  include special liturgical receptions,  First Communion receptions, Confirmation receptions, RCIA  confirmands receptions and other special events.

Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee endeavors to accomplish the work of the Lay Apostolate in Our Lady of the Lake Parish and the Community it serves by inviting all members to live “ Stewardship as a Way of Life”.  Stewardship provides ongoing education and opportunities to parishioners.

Bereavement

This ministry provides meals to grieving families following a funeral.

Card Ministry

This group of ladies meets once monthly to send well-wishing cards to parishioners and non-parishioners alike who are ill and in need of our concern and prayers.

Knights of Columbus

A Catholic men’s fraternal organization formed to provide aid to families and parishioners in need. Their motto is “In Service to One, In Service to All.”

Ladies Auxiliary – KC’s          

These ladies assist the Knights of Columbus. Their Bunco games are fundraisers. These funds go to charitable organizations which benefit the whole community.

Pro-Life Council

This group acts as the resource for Pro-Life activities. They write legislators, participate in marches, and hold spiritual adoptions.

St Joseph’s Altar

Every year OLL hosts a St. Joseph’s Altar to honor St. Joseph on his feast day.  A St. Joseph’s altar is a centuries’ old tradition that originated as a way of giving thanks for prayers answered to end a severe drought in Sicily.  This custom was brought to our area by the Sicilian immigrants who settled in and around south Louisiana.  Help with the Altar is needed in many ways: baking cookies, preparing foods, serving the food,etc.

St. Vincent  de Paul Society

The purpose of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is to extend the continuation of Christ’s charity by attending to the material needs of the poor, sick, shut-ins, as well as those out of work.


Sunshine Ministry

The Sunshine Ministry provides home-cooked dinners and a moment of prayer to parishioners who are suffering from illness or any other crisis whereby meal preparation is a burden. This is a voluntary service, so cook as little or as much as you like. Every little bit helps
