Our Lady of the Lake Church Choirs and Music Ministry

Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church presently has five choirs and a vibrant cantor ministry leading the music at seven different Masses every weekend.  All choirs have a leader in charge of their respective group.  Any questions regarding the overall music ministry may be directed to Sharon Scharmer, Our Lady of the Lake Music Director, at sharon@ollparish.info, or 985-626-5671, ext. 102.  You may also contact the respective group leaders outlined below..

Our Lady of the Lake Parish has a Cantor Ministry with trained cantors who are familiar with the Catholic liturgy and their role within the liturgy.  If you are interested in becoming a cantor, please contact Sharon Scharmer to schedule an interview and audition.

  • If you are an organist or pianist interested in accompaniment duties in the music ministry, please contact Sharon Scharmer.
  • The Traditional Adult Choir sings at various Masses in the church on most weekends throughout the year.  Their repertoire includes a variety of music from Latin to contemporary.  The Traditional Choir has traveled extensively throughout the world on pilgrimages. They present a program of Christmas music prior to Midnight Mass as well as providing music for all holy Week services and other special parish Masses.  While reading music is an asset, it is not necessary.  Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Life Center, with the exception of June and July.  The director of this group is Sharon Scharmer at 985-626-5671, ext. 102, or sharon@ollparish.info.
  • The Contemporary Adult Choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. Mass in the church annex.  This large group consists of several vocalists accompanied by guitar, piano and percussion.  Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings.  Further information may be obtained from group leader, Bob Shenk, at rshenk@bellsouth.net
  • The 9:00 a.m. contemporary choir sings every Sunday in the Parish annex.  The group consists of several vocalists accompanied by guitar, percussion and keyboard.  Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings.  Contact group leader Laura Myers in the Parish Life Center at 626-5671, ext. 412 for further details.
  • The 7:30 p.m. contemporary choir sings on Sunday evenings in the church annex, beginning with Adoration 1/2 hour prior to Mass.  This group also is comprised of guitars, percussion and piano.  The group leader is Duane Blake who can be reached at D.Blake09@yahoo.com.
  • The Childrens Choir sings once per month and rehearses on Thursday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m.  This group is open to all children beginning with the 3rd grade and is a wonderful opportunity for children to obtain free vocal training.  For information on this group, please contact Sharon Scharmer at 985-626-5671, ext. 102.
